In its first spirits venture outside of the gin category, the drinks producer has made the tipple by using both fresh and dried bananas, which are macerated for five weeks in handpicked Caribbean rums aged between three and eight years.
The rums hail from Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, and are mainly made from sugarcane molasses.
Hoxton Banana Rum is a majority blend of column still rums, with 15% pot still rums, which contains no artificial colourings or flavours.
Hoxton Spirits founder Gerry Calabrese said the rum’s inception comes as consumer demand for new flavours grows.
“This is a huge milestone for me to finally be in a position to expand the brand into other spirit categories,” said Calabrese.
“I have big plans to further evolve Hoxton Spirits over the next 12 months, so watch this space.”
On the nose, the rum is said to have “distinct” molasses character with underlying banana notes, leading to a stronger banana flavour on the palate and a “smooth, just off-dry” tropical fruit note on the finish.
Bottled at 40% ABV, Hoxton Banana Rum is available exclusively online at an RRP of £32.95.
Last year, Hoxton Spirits joined the pink gin trend with the release of an expression made from rosehip, rose and bergamot botanicals.
