Greene King rolls out takeaway offer

With the public heeding Government advice to avoid social venues, many operators have adopted a takeaway offer.

Now, Greene King is joining the move by starting the rollout with 50 Greene King and Hungry Horse pubs by the end of the week, with the intention to increase to 500 over the coming weeks.

The takeaway menu will include favourite pub classics such as fish and chips, steak and ale pie, burger and chips, as well as a range of bottled beer, wine and soft drinks.

Current crisis​

Greene King CEO Nick Mackenzie said: “Providing our locals with a pub food takeaway service has been in the plan for a while but we’ve accelerated it due to the impact coronavirus is having on our local communities.

“Our pubs are at the heart of the local community and we are continuing to look at other ways we can support communities during the current crisis.”

Greene King already offers delivery at its Loch Fyne restaurants, Metropolitan Pub Company sites and some of its London-based pubs, and will explore how this might be rolled out further.

Tackle the pandemic ​

On Tuesday (17 March), the Government granted permission for pubs and restaurants to operate as takeaways as part of its response to coronavirus.

This means planning rules will be relaxed so pubs and restaurants can operate as hot food takeaways during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Communities secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP said: “We are committed to doing everything we can to tackle the pandemic and support people, businesses and communities through this difficult time.

“These changes will provide vital flexibility to pubs and restaurants and will ensure people are able to safely stay at home while still supporting some of the great local businesses across this country.”
