GBPA Best Pub for Families: The Onslow Arms
The Onslow Arms & Smokehouse in Loxwood is situated on the Wey & Arun Canal in West Sussex. It has a family offer that covers everyone from kids to older clients.
It offers a kids menu, a play area and there are pet pygmy goats Hops and Barley, which the children can feed. The Onslow Arms has two beer gardens, one of which has the kids play area and climbing frame and the other which is situated next to the canal. It recently added a Smoke House to its offer investing in a smoker so it can smoke all its meats in house.
During the pandemic and the child eat free campaign the pub launched its - "No vouchers? No problem!" initiative, offering free, children's meals to the local community. The pub took part in the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme, and extended this when the government finished.
Live music for all
The pub offers live music outside throughout the summer and also raises money for its local pre-school.
During lockdown the pub underwent a full refit, which has give the pub a modern look with a contemporary feel.
Extra seating areas were added to fit in more covers and it also extended the bar. The pub also added more benches outside and new umbrella's to make it suitable for all weathers.
It has a sustainability focus using recyclable straws and napkins, and all its plates and glasses are reusable. It makes all its sauces in house and uses refillable bottles. And all its food supplies are as local as possible.
