Greene King offers employees a bonus package worth £6m
The package, which is unprecedented for Greene King, has aimed to reward its 40,000 team members in recognition of their outstanding efforts since pub restrictions were lifted in July and all their hard work during the busy Christmas season.
Greene King chief people officer Andrew Bush said: “This is a ‘BIG Thank You’ from us. The scale of the festive rewards reflects the real day-to-day efforts everyone is making to deliver a quality pub experience for all.”
Variety of rewards
Employees across the company, which operates c.2,600 pubs, restaurants and hotels across England, Wales, and Scotland, will be rewarded in a variety of ways, such as £300 cash bonus, extra holiday allowances, an uplift in hourly rates, increased team discount and a meal per shift.
The extra Christmas bonus from Greene King comes after it was confirmed last month the pub operator had raised more than £10m for Macmillan Cancer Support in under a decade, surpassing its fundraising goal for the charity.
On top of the Macmillan charity fundraising, last month Greene King also won a CorpComms 2021 award for ‘Best Diversity and Inclusion Initiative’ following its ‘Calling Time on Racism’ action plan; a reverse mentoring program which saw the companies executive board be assigned a mentor from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds.
Recognising employees hard work
Hospitality has faced extra challenges due to coronavirus, supply issues and shortages, which is why Greene King leaders drew up plans for the super-boosted Christmas bonus scheme for teams to add to their festive celebrations.
Bush added: “The past two years and recent months have seen incredible resilience and outstanding commitment from all our team members who continue to offer a warm welcome for all our customers.”
