Building confidence in the nations transport infrastructure is “vitally important” as businesses regain pre-pandemic levels of trade, the Night-Time Industries Association (NTIA) has stated.

This comes as Transport for London (TfL) has announced today (Thursday 28 July) from this weekend, all Night Tube services would be fully restored following suspension in March 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.

NTIA CEO Michael Kill said: "We are extremely pleased to see the night tube services back to full capacity, with services on the Piccadilly line returning on 29 July, running through the night.

“Following a tough few years, it's great to see the industry and key stakeholders working together to re-establish these important transport links.”

Services on the Piccadilly line have been set to return on the evening of Friday 29 July and will run throughout the night on Fridays and Saturdays, following the restoration of the Central and Victoria lines in November 2021 in addition to night-time Overground services between Highbury, Islington, and New Cross Gate in December 2021.

This comes as rail strikes continue to cause disruption nationwide, with more than 40,000 rail workers expected to participate in further action across Saturday 30 July, Thursday 18 August, and Saturday 20 August, due to disputes regarding pay and working conditions for rail staff.

Safe and accessible

According to the NTIA, the return of night-tube and overground services will provide more options for safe travel around the capital, though the association has previously stated ongoing rail strikes pose health and safety concerns as well as threats to both the UK and hospitality sector’s post-pandemic recovery amid soaring inflation.

Kill added: "As London starts to regain its pre-pandemic business levels, it's vitally important we build back confidence in our transport infrastructure and promote a safe and accessible night-time economy for customers and workers to travel throughout the capital."
