This week's round-up features an on-trade debut from Guinness alongside a new gin from Ellers Farm Distillery and a festive relaunch from Salcombe Distilling Co.

Guinness 0.0 makes on-trade debut

Guinness 00 On Trade

Following its off-trade launch last year, Guinness 0.0 will be available in pubs, bars and restaurants nationwide this month.

Brewed the same way as standard Guinness, the alcohol is then removed through a cold filtration process resulting in the same smooth, balanced flavours of chocolate and coffee alongside the dark colour and creamy head Guinness is known for at just 17 calories a serve.

Additionally, since its launch last year, the alcohol-free variant from the brewers at St James’ Gate has become the fastest growing non-alcoholic beer in the off trade, according to Nielsen Scantrack.

Guinness GB head Neil Shah said: “We know that the No and Low category presents a huge opportunity for the on trade, so we’re excited to launch Guinness 0.0 in pubs, bars and restaurants across GB.

“With some consumers opting to go alcohol-free at their favourite venues, we’re delighted that they can enjoy the unmistakable Guinness taste, just without the alcohol.”

Guinness 0.0 will be available in can format. For more information contact your Diageo representative.

Ellers Farm Distillery expands gin range

Eller sloe gin

Ellers Farm Distillery has expanded its gin portfolio with the launch of Sloe Gin (26% ABV), an extension to its Y-Gin range, distilled on the farm in North Yorkshire in small batches of 500.

A deep, natural colour with a balanced jammy sweetness gives way to flavours of piney juniper, cardamon and warming ginger, finishing with notes of plums, raisins, and an acidic tang which pairs well with a glass of Prosecco or warmed in a hot toddy to give that festive feeling.

Ellers Farm master distiller Jamie Baggott said: “We’ve macerated sloe berries for the last six months in anticipation for creating our special Sloe Gin.

“It’s the perfect time of the year for this tipple, and we hope to play our role in festivities across the UK.”

Ellers Sloe Gin is available now direct from the brands webshop in 50cl bottle format at RRP £20.

Salcombe Distilling Co relaunches festive tipple

Finisterre

Salcombe Distilling Co has produced a further release of its limited-edition cask aged gin, Finisterre (46% ABV), as part of the brands Victuallers Edition series.

A collaboration with Spanish sherry house Bodegas Tradición, this latest release has been maturing for three years in American oak Fino sherry casks, allowing it to mellow and sweeten.

On the nose, Finisterre offers citrus aromas alongside notes of citrus peel and warm fruit on the palate with the salinity from the sherry prevalent in the finish.

Salcombe Distilling Co co-founder Angus Lugsdin said: “We were honoured to work with the prestigious Bodegas Tradición to create this limited batch of cask aged gin.

“The fresh citrus notes are tempered through the cask maturation process which has taken three years, creating wonderful candied citrus aromas and moreish saline notes from the aged Fino. The result is a sophisticated and elegant gin with great character and depth of flavour.

“Finisterre was the result of our curiosity with cask aged gin and we are thrilled with how this extraordinary product is continuing to develop.

“We were delighted by the response to the first two editions and we hope our latest release is as well received.”

Finisterre is availble direct from Salcombe Distilling Co’s webshop in 50cl format at RRP £50.
