Former Nightcap group commercial director Tom Kidd has joined forces with Windmill Taverns to roll out the company’s Mc & Sons concept.

Windmill Taverns, owned and run by the McElhinney family, has recently opened its second Mc & Son’s site at Vauxhall, building on the success of the first in Southwark.

Kidd, who co-founded Adventure Bar Group, left Nightcap earlier this year, to launch his own consulting operation, and has now joined Windmill as a non-exec director.

Commenting on LinkedIn, Kidd said: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as non-exec director at Windmill Taverns. Rolling out dreamy Irish Pubs in affluent London suburbs.”

Speaking to the MA recently, Windmill Taverns Ryan McElhinney said the company was going to focus on expanding the Mc & Sons brand, which aims to reflect his family’s heritage.

“Every picture we source by hand, everything is curated and chosen to make it feel like an authentic Irish pub, and now that we’ve done two, let’s do three or four of these. I think definitely five and we’ve also been asked to do one in Dubai.

“It’s not something I’d ever thought about, but it would be nice to bring the name over there, so we’ll have a look, if it works it works. I’d love to do it in America as well. If stuff comes our way, we’ll look at it.

“We haven’t grown too fast, and that’s ok If you grow too fast the quicker you grow the quicker you fall. So we’re happy with what we’ve got if we get more, we get more. If we don’t we don’t.”
