Simon Bonwick calls time on The Dew Drop Inn
Under Bonwick and his son Charlie’s tenure the Hurley pub has attracted a number of awards and has been ranked on both Restaurant’s list of the top 100 places to eat in the UK and the Top 50 Gastropubs list.
No reason has been given for the Bonwick family’s departure with Bonwick simply saying that the project has ‘reached its natural conclusion’.
Distinctive style
The chef - who is known for his distinctive take on classical French cooking - says he is open to opportunities and that he is in the process of finishing his second cookery book: Complete Pub Cookery.
“We have loved being in the Hurley Forest, it’s a unique spot for a country pub offering our particular style of hospitality,” he says. “Tom Davies CEO and Gavin Mansfield at Brakspear have given inspirational guidance, and have been instrumental in raising the Dew Drop Inn on to its new iron legs for the future tenants that are to be confirmed shortly.”

Successful pubs
Bonwick and his family have run a string of critically successful pubs in Berkshire including the Crown at Burchetts Green, which held a Michelin star and was also listed on both Restaurant’s list of the top 100 places to eat in the UK and the Top 50 Gastropubs list.
The chef was one of just a handful in the UK to opt to cook unaided but has worked alongside his son Charlie in more recent years.
The Bonwick’s final service at the Dew Drop Inn will take place on 14 July.
