Famous Turf pub receives refurb

City pub the Turf, which was made famous by the 'Welcome to Wrexham' TV programme, has undergone a transformation.

The series allowed for an exclusive insight into behind the scenes content of Wrexham FC and places a focus on its co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Turf, which is nestled beside the city's Racecourse Ground, features on the Disney+ documentary series.

Exclusive history and royal visits

The Turf is built on the inside of a football club grounds and is also said to be the oldest public house located in any sports stadium worldwide. According to it’s website, Wrexham FC is also the third oldest professional football club in the world.

Recently frequented by royalty, the site was previously visited by the Prince of Wales on 1 March 2024, where fans, members of the community and representatives from local charities voiced their opinions on how the pub acts as a vital community hub and provides support for various causes. The site was also previously awarded a community award by Admiral Taverns.

Wrexham FC’s CEO, Fleur Robinson previously commented on the visit, she said: "It was a pleasure to welcome the Price of Whales to the Turf to showcase the pub and all that is has to offer the local community."

New features

Features of the recent refurbishment include Wrexham AFC branded furniture provided by Carlick Contract Furniture, including custom chairs embroidered with the initials of the star cohort at the directors table.

Speaking on the interior alterations, licensee of the site Wayne Jones told X: “Cannot recommend these folks enough", describing the company as “professional, and reliable”.

According to the website, other notable features of the venue also include screen-printed table tops and custom stitched seat backs featuring the Turf’s logo which have added even more to the venue’s iconic identity.
