Green credentials: the Myrtle Tavern collects rainwater to maintain its outside space

The Myrtle Tavern, located in a conservation area in Leeds, has transformed its outdoor space into a unique garden with every corner packed with something for everyone.

Originally just a car park and field, the garden now features a two-tiered layout with various attractions and a strong focus on family-friendly experiences.

The upper tier of the garden is primarily an evening space, featuring a recently constructed lodge with panoramic views of the nearby cricket pitch, accommodating up to 120 people.

Meticulous maintenance

The bottom tier, which has a capacity of 400, includes a play area for children, a wildlife pond, and even rabbits that draw families back time and again. The garden extends into the surrounding woodland, offering an "enchanted forest" experience with activities for kids.

The garden is meticulously maintained, with regular efforts from both professional gardeners and dedicated staff, including family members. The marquee is used to host Winter events which ensures that the garden remains a vibrant space year-round, not just during the summer months.

Space transformation

The transformation of this space over 14 years reflects a deep commitment to creating an inviting, multi-functional garden.

Notably, the pub also makes great efforts to reduce its environmental impact by using 100% green energy, recycling oil to be made into fuel, using rainwater to maintain the garden, planting pollinator plants for the bees and even growing their own garnishes for their drinks.
