Kent-based brewer and pub operator Shepherd Neame has invested a total of £300,000 into its riverside pub the Britannia.

The pub, which is located on the banks of the River Wey, Guildford, Surrey, and has undergone three weeks' of work to create a new welcome for its customers.

The site reopened on Friday January 30, coinciding with the Six Nations rugby tournament kick-off.

Internally, the pub has been completely redecorated, with a new colour scheme incorporating blues and greens, and new additional artwork.

The site’s seating has also been refurbished in complementary colours.

New features

A brand new bar is also showcased that features an extensive selection of Shepherd Neame’s beers, including Hürlimann continental lager, which it brews under licence.

A range of acclaimed English wines, premium spirits and cocktails are also available.

The pub, known locally as ‘The Brit’, has a new back bar, and refurbished toilets.

It also has several large screens for guests to watch sporting events and is set to continue to run live music events.

The refurbishment has also included installing a new kitchen, which will serve a selection of light bites, sharing platters and pub classics.

Using locally sourced ingredients, the site will also offer alongside its well known, ‘Pie Corner’ providing a selection of three or more flavours of fresh, handmade pies daily.

The pub has been given a full electrical upgrade to improve it’s efficiency, with a full focus on sustainability.

Further instalments

Energy-saving equipment has also been installed in the cellar.

Externally, improvements have also been made to the spacious terrace at the front of the pub, introducing new parasols and signage.

Shepherd Neame managing director of pubs Jonathon Swaine said: “We’re very proud of the transformation which we have carried out at the Britannia.

“It has been providing friendly hospitality for years, and is in a great location and we wanted to invest in its long-term future by giving it the look and facilities it deserved.

“The team, led by general manager Libby Britt, are excited to show off their new-look pub and we are confident that the business will continue to go from strength to strength.”

The venue will hold an official launch event on Monday 24 February, offering live music and a presentation by Shepherd Neame chief executive Jonathan Neame.
