A serious incident at the JD Wetherspoon (JDW) pub, Navigation Inn, situated on Wharf Road in King’s Norton, has resulted in three people being hospitalised due to stab wounds.

According to the BBC, the altercation took place late on Saturday (25 January), around 11.15pm, which prompted a swift response from the West Midlands Police.

The victims included two men and a woman, all of whom needed treatment in hospital. It is reported that the extreme severity of their injuries means they will require ongoing medical care and attention.

A 19-year-old male has been linked to the event and has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect is currently in police custody. The two injured men at the site have also been arrested with suspected connection to the incident.

‘Horrific’ event

The Navigation Inn remained closed on Sunday as police continued with their investigation. JDW spokesperson Eddie Gershon described the event as “horrific” and told The Morning Advertiser it was completely out of character for the pub.

He told The Morning Advertiser: “Our thoughts are with those who were wounded, together with their colleagues, friends and family.

“The Navigation Inn is a popular local pub and this incident is completely out of character.

“We will continue to work with the police.”

The BBC also reported the manager of the site had undergone surgery, but is not predicted to be in a life-threatening condition currently.

Knife crime concerns

This latest stabbing incident has occurred amidst a background of increasing concern around knife crime throughout the region.

The BBC reports, that data released in July has revealed the West Midlands Police area has the highest, most recorded rate of knife offences throughout England and Wales.

This incident has shocked the local community and may likely fuel further debate on public safety, and the necessary measures needed to combat increasing knife crime.
