The Britannia, a riverside pub in Guildford, has undergone a £300,000 refurbishment by Shepherd Neame. The site reopened on Friday 30 January after three weeks of both internal and external refurbishments.
New features
The pub’s interior has been fully decorated with new artwork and seating options. Offering a new bar which features a selection of Shepherd Neame’s beers, including Hürlimann continental lager, served from a bespoke ceramic Bavarian-style font.
The bar also offers a range of English wines, premium cocktails and spirits. The site showcases a new back bar, and refurbished toilets.
Large sports screens are available throughout the site and the pub is set to continue hosting live music. Externally, the terrace at the front of the pub also has new parasols and signage.

Punch pubs acquires Somerset site

Punch Pubs & Co has expanded its portfolio, with the new acquisition of the Bull pub in Ilchester, Somerset. The pub is designed to be part of Punch’s leased and tenanted estate and is set to be operated by publican Yvonne Wright.
New highlights
The Bull features a variety of drink options including lagers, beers, ciders, spirits and soft drinks. The site is also known locally for its successful sports teams including skittles, pool and darts. It showcases a beer garden, which is open all year.
The site also features an outdoor bar, seating area and a football table. Punch Pubs operations manager Jay Pearce said: “Yvonne is an outstanding and seasoned operator who has successfully managed a number of pubs within our estate.
“She will be ensuring the great legacy left by the previous Publicans will continue, whilst we search for a long-term Publican to drive this community pub forward.”
Continued success
Future plans for the site include re-introducing a home-cooked food menu. Punch Pubs & Co head of estate development and acquisitions Andrew Cannons added: “We are pleased to welcome the Bull into the Punch family.
“It is a fantastic pub that has excellent qualities, and we’re confident that it will contribute to the continued success of our leased and tenanted estate as Yvonne and the team step in.”
The Stable to open new restaurant in Padstow

The Stable, a fresh pizza and craft cider restaurant group, will open a new harbourside restaurant located in Padstow in late February.
New menu features
The new Padstow restaurant will have 120 seats and offer an exclusive new menu with new and improved pizza bases.
It will also showcase smashed burgers and classic fish and chips. The Padstow based venue will also introduce the brand’s first-ever all new breakfast menu.
Highlights are set to include the whole hog brekkie, the miller’s mix and eggs royale.
The Stable Padstow will be open daily from 9 am to 10 pm, for 7 days a week and will also be open to the public on Valentine’s day.
Launch party
The Stable will host a launch party within early spring, in order to celebrate its new Padstow location. Stable director Emma Blackmore said: “We’re incredibly excited to be opening in beautiful Padstow, a place that is loved by so many.
“We pride ourselves on value for money and exceptional tasting food, and we can’t wait to introduce locals and visitors to our delicious fresh sourdough pizzas, ciders, and new breakfast menu which will be exclusive to The Stable in Padstow”.
Be At One Regent Street to undergo £500k refurbishment

Be At One Regent Street, a cocktail bar in London closed on Monday 3 February to undertake a £500,000 refurbishment.
Stonegate group will relaunch the site later this month with aims of offering an enhanced cocktail experience for guests.
Increased seating
The refurbishment will introduce new features including a chef’s table style bar for an interactive experience, with a bookable speakeasy style room, photobooth, and a new VIP raised area.
Currently the venue has a 548 person capacity. Following the refurbishment, the site is set to accommodate up to 580 guests.
The venue will also offer a new hexagonal shaped VIP area intended for cocktail masterclasses.
Upgraded venue and reopening
The venue is expected to offer a premium feel with upgraded enhanced lighting and extended booth seating options. The site will be available for private hires.
Southampton pub receives £240k makeover
The Bricklayers Arms, located on Wimpson Lane in Southampton reopened last Friday (31 January) following a major investment of more than £240,000.
The pub is part of Proper Pubs – the community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns.
Operator of the Bricklayers Arms Yaz Rodriguez said: “Inside, the pub has been completely transformed to include brand new furniture, flooring, fixtures and fittings throughout to give it a fresh new look and feel.”
In addition, the two separate bar areas have been combined to create one large, open plan space, complete with dart boards and a pool table for customers to enjoy, to elevate and brighten the overall atmosphere.
Going forward, the site is set to host a varied schedule of entertainment options including regular live music and pool and darts teams to band local residents together.
Rodriguez is also committed to supporting the community and has hopes to start collecting for the local food bank.
The operator emphasised her interest in working closely with local children’s charity, Southampton: Doing It For The Kids’.
She highlighted she is open to further suggestions from the community on worthy causes/initiatives to support.
Rodriguez added: “I would like to extend my deepest thanks to everyone at Proper Pubs for their invaluable support in helping me to bring my vision to life.
None of this would have been possible without them and I am incredibly grateful for all their help.
I’d also like to give a special shout-out to my amazing team, and of course the local community, for all their ongoing encouragement throughout this journey.
I’m thrilled to be returning to the helm of The Bricklayers Arms and I look forward to cementing it at the heart of the community.”
The Bricklayers Arms also offers a varied selection of drink promotions including wine Wednesday, where customers have the chance to get £2 off a bottle and Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with other varied bottle, shot and cocktails deals throughout the week.
