Salford Lads and Girls club gains aid from pubco (Salford Lads and Girls club)

Joseph Holt Brewery has launched a fundraiser to support the Salford Lads and Girls Club, ensuring the upkeep of its Grade II-listed Edwardian building.

The company has rallied 39 of its pubs throughout areas such as Salford, Prestwich, Urmston and Old Trafford to help raise money for the club, which currently requires urgent funds for its ongoing maintenance needs.

Participating pubs listed include the Ape and Apple, the Winston, the Crown and Anchor and the Union Tavern.

Money raised will go towards the Salford Lads and Girls Club Legacy Fund, with aims to ensure the club’s future.

Current goal

The current fundraising goal is set at £10,000 to protect the heritage of the establishment and support the club.

A lifeline and programme of activities for youngsters from some of the most deprived communities"

The club was originally founded in 1904 and was opened by Scout movement founder, Robert Baden-Powell.

The club also previously received global recognition after appearing on a Smith’s album cover, and was opened originally as an all-boys club.

The site is now open and available to all young people. Once saved from closure by the community, it is now relying on support from Joseph Holt to remain as a vital community asset.

Joseph Holt director of pubs Mark Norbury said: “At Joseph Holt we very much focus on being a resource for the community...It’s an ethos which very much chimes with the work of Salford Lads Club, which provides a lifeline and programme of activities for youngsters from some areas of the most deprived communities.”
