Swingers City: Shoreditch site closes after nine years (Swingers City)

After nine years of operation, Swingers, the crazy golf concept, will be closing its original City location on Saturday 22 March.

The operator said the shutdown is due to the planned redevelopment of the site. Swingers City has become a globally recognised entertainment brand which has made many notable memories for guests.

Originally opening in 2016, Swingers City followed the success of a pop-up which was located in Shoreditch, London. The venue combined a crazy golf experience with cocktails and gourmet street food based in an immersive, theatrical environment.

The business, which is operated by The Institute of Competitive Socialising said before the competitive socialising market category gained popularity, Swingers City “united people together through the innovative new concept of entertainment and hospitality”.

Model blueprint

The Shoreditch site became the first permanent location and blueprint for the brand. The Swingers model has since been replicated throughout other major cities including New York City, Washington DC, Las Vegas, Dubai and soon in Boston. Site locations also expanded to other areas of London, such as the West End.

Swingers City’s approach has since inspired many other competitive socialising brands to break into the market with new experiential entertainment concepts.

The Institute of Competitive Socialising co-CEO and co-founder Matt Grech-Smith said: “Swingers City was where it all started.

“When we first signed the lease, we had no idea how much this venue would shape not only our business but the wider competitive socialising scene.”

Virtually unheard of

“At the time, the concept of combining crazy golf with high-quality food and drink in an immersive setting was virtually unheard of.

“Swingers City helped pave the way for an entire industry, inspiring a new era of social entertainment.

“It has been an incredible ride, and we are so grateful to our amazing team, loyal guests, and everyone who has been part of the Swingers City story.

“While we are sad to see it go, we are excited to continue building on its legacy as we continue to expand.”
