After being named number one on the Top 50 Gastropub’s list last month, the Unruly Pig in Bromeswell, Suffolk, has this week been awarded three AA Rosettes.
It was the only pub to be featured on this year’s list. Two restaurants received four AA Rosettes while fifteen were awarded three AA Rosettes.
Padfield said: “Our team at The Unruly Pig make me proud every day but it is their sheer hard work, dedication, loyalty, and attention to detail that seems to make the difference.
Great start
“These are troubled times for the hospitality, so this lovely further accolade of being awarded three AA rosettes is the cherry on the cake on what has thankfully already been a great start to 2025 for The Unruly Pig.”
Dating back to the 16th century, the East Anglian pub has been run by former solicitor Brendan Padfield and chef-patron Dave Wall since 2015.
“This is another great accolade for Suffolk and for Team Unruly. With now 3 AA rosettes we are in auspicious company. This is a lovely privilege and honour. This further external validation means so very much”, Wall added.
Meanwhile, head chef at the Unruly Pig Karl Green commented: “We continuously strive to improve our offering and the award of three AA rosettes is perhaps testament to how far we have travelled as a pub since we first opened nearly 10 years ago.”
Earning three AA Rosettes elevates businesses to a level of “national acclaim” and recognises “outstanding culinary excellence” far beyond their local footprint, according to AA inspectors.
Well-deserved recognition
Announced at an event held at the RAK Ceramics Design Hub, London, on Tuesday 18 February, the awards highlight the “evolution of the UK’s food scene”, as boundary-pushing chefs and pioneering restaurants “set new standards”.
AA Media managing director Simon Numphud FIH said: “We’re thrilled to celebrate the latest collection of outstanding restaurants.
“From innovative tasting menus to a renewed focus on provenance and seasonality, these establishments showcase the very best of what the British food scene has to offer.
“Huge congratulations to the remarkable chefs and front-of-house teams whose dedication have earned them this well-deserved recognition.”
