JD Wetherspoon (JDW) has launched a 12-day beer festival, showcasing 30 real ales.

Pubs taking part in the initiative, which is scheduled to take place from Wednesday 5 to Sunday 16 March, will offer beers priced at just £1.99.

International offerings

The festival will feature beers from overseas brewers in Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA, none of which have been available at JDW previously. There are also vegan beers set to be available.

The international beers will include Wallaby from Penny Red, Australia, Estuary Session Ale, from Land & Sea, Canada, Chocolate Porter from Birra Perugia, Italy and Antipodean Brew Moon, from New Zealand. Hey Pal from Terrapin, USA will also be offered.

Celebrating Real Ale

Wetherspoons marketing manager Jen Swindells said: “The festival is a great celebration of real ale.

“It will allow us to showcase a selection of superb value-for-money beers, including those from brewers as far afield as Canada and New Zealand, as well as those closer to home”.

She noted the festival also features five female international brewers, highlighting the historical role of women in brewing.

Swindells added: “The event will also give customers the opportunity to enjoy beers which have not previously been available in the pubs, as well as those brewed especially for the festival”.

Commitment to variety and value

JDW spokesperson, Eddie Gershon, told The Morning Advertiser (MA): “Wetherspoon has been running beer festivals for the past 30 years – it is a great way to showcase a wide range of brewers and their beers from the UK and overseas.

“This highlights the company’s commitment to serving the largest range of beers possible and Wetherspoon has always been good value.”

On pricing, Gershon added: “£1.99 is, the company believes, a fair price for a festival beer and an encouragement for people to enjoy."

Tasting notes on all of the beers will be available in the pubs as part of the festival magazine.
