‘World’s smallest pub' set to open

World's smallest pub comes to Manchester
City centre site: The pub is due to open on Tuesday 11 March (World's smallest pub)

The 21sq ft pub is due to open its doors in Manchester later this month (March).

The 6.5ft x 3.25ft site is a third of the size of the current world record holder.

Visitors of the venue will be able to enjoy a baby lager which is exclusively served at the Tiny Tinkard.

Two-day event

The pub is only set to be standing for two days, and will be showcased at the Northern Restaurant and Bar show at Manchester Central, from Tuesday 11 March 11 to Wednesday 12 March.

The miniature pub aims to emphasise great British culture and showcases photos of pop-culture pub icons. It will also offer miniature blackboards and dart boards.

Other features of the site will include a pint-sized pitstop for bartenders and industry insiders and media. Pub goers will also be gifted a polaroid to commemorate their visit.

The idea for the Tiny Tankard was born from a play on Licor 43’s Baby Lager serve.

Known as a baby beer or a mini beer, Baby Lager is a layered shot with notes of vanilla and citrus.

According to data undertaken by the brand’s owners Paragon, a recent survey of 2,000 UK adults revealed a growing preference for mini cocktails with 33% of respondents preferring cocktail shots over normal regular sized shots.

Popularity rise

According to Paragon, nearly half of drinkers choose mini drinks for their taste and 15% drink them for social media posts. This is a figure that jumps to 28% among 35 to 44 year olds.

The Baby Lagers will be served for the two days of the pub’s opening.

Visitors to the site will have the chance to ask questions, where Tiny Tankard brand ambassador Ollie Drew and Tiny Tankard brand manager Claire Maguire will be present, posing as stand in “landlords” for the venue.

Paragon Brands managing director Chris Jones said: “We’re thrilled to unveil the world’s smallest pub, the Tiny Tankard, at this year’s Northern Restaurant & Bar Show in Manchester.

“It might be a small space, but it’s making a big statement – miniature drinks are on the rise and Licor 43 is at the heart of this revolution.

“Most forward-thinking venues are getting on board, and consumers are starting to demand more and more aesthetic and great-tasting shots.”

The Tiny Tankard will be calling last orders when Manchester Central closes, however the party is set to continue at the Licor 43 Northern Restaurant and Bar afterparty at Peaky Blinders in Manchester.
