The Northamptonshire-based pub company recently procured the Montagu Arms in Barnwell, adding to its estate of some 22 venues.
While the exact figure has not been disclosed, the freehold of the food-led pub was advertised for sale with Everard Cole at £1.2m excluding VAT.
McManus Pubs strategy and business development manager Tom McManus commented: “We are delighted to have secured The Montagu Arms in Barnwell which has a loyal following and great reputation built up over many years by Ian Simmons and his fantastic team.
Great addition
“The business fits perfectly with our selective acquisition strategy and will be a great addition to the McManus group.
“We would like to welcome all the existing staff to McManus Pubs and thank Everard Cole for negotiating the transaction.”
A 16th century stone-built inn, the 150 cover pub was extensively refurbished and extended during the previous owners private tenure.
Renovations included traditional bars, a conservatory restaurant and extensive grounds and parking.
Invaluable advice
Outgoing licensee Ian Simmons added: “We have mixed emotions about leaving the Montagu Arms after our long tenure of almost 17 years, but are delighted that such a highly regarded company as McManus Pubs have taken over the reigns and wish them all the very best.
“I’d like to thank Everard Cole for their invaluable advice throughout the process.”
Founded in 1970, McManus pubs operates sites across Northampton, Leigh-on-Sea and Pinner.
Everard Col managing director Tom Nichols said: “Everard Cole are pleased to have sourced such a strong operator for the business on behalf of our private client, demonstrating the demand for strong profitable businesses, despite the uncertainties faced in the sector.”
