Steak, mixed grills and gammon are being removed from the menu from 14 May.
Popular menu items are set to be replaced with Korean-style dishes such as Korean chicken burgers.
The changes have been trialled throughout various JDW sites since January.
Multiple customers have spoken up on the changes, expressing their views on the removals.
Value for money
A spokesperson at JDW told The Morning Advertiser (MA): “JDW is making changes to its menu in May, this includes the removal of steaks, mixed grills and gammon.
“A new range of gourmet burgers will be introduced; The Big Smoke, Buffalo Burger and Cheese Meltdown. There will also be a range of Korean-style chicken meals added.
“JDW is confident that its menu provides a variety of choices and value-for money meals.”
“We appreciate that some customers will be disappointed with the decision to remove steaks and grills.”
Many people took to social media to comment on the menu changes, expressing their issues with the items being removed.
One person on X (formerly known as Twitter) described the removals as “outrageous.”
The news comes after the latest figures from CGA by NIQ revealed foodservice inflation had risen between January and February this year.
Tax distortions
While the year-on-year rate remained flat, beer prices were found to have surged.
The pub behemoth also recently announced changes to its beer line-up across its 681-strong estate.
At the end of last year, JDW replaced San Miguel, which it had previously stocked for a number of years, with Italian brew Angelo Portetti.
The pubco confirmed the new addition would be included with meals on the main menu as part of its ‘includes a drink’ range and would be sold for £3.99 a pint as a stand-alone product.
In its latest trading update, JDW reported like-for-like sales across its estate were 5.1% higher in the 25 weeks to 19 January 2025 than the same period 12-months prior.
However, chairman and founder Tim Martin warned VAT distortions between the on and off-trade would create “more supermarkets and less pubs” in the future.
