Site reopening: the iconic Welsh venue closed in October to complete a full £3m renovation (RedCat)

RedCat Hospitality’s Coaching Inn Group is opening a new flagship site this month (April), following a £3m refurbishment.

The Castle of Brecon Hotel, the iconic and historic Welsh venue, is built into the remains of Brecon Castle. It closed in October 2024 to complete a full renovation of its 42 bedrooms, the restaurant, bar and all public areas.

This latest reopening marks a new push in RedCat Hospitality capex programme, which is currently being rolled out across both its Coaching Inn Group arm as well as its RedCat Independent Pubs faction.

The group was founded by former Greene King boss Rooney Anand in 2021.

This new opening follows a recent award win for The Coaching Inn Group as Best Accommodation Operator at The Publican Awards last month (March).

Local area

The business recently revealed a rise in turnover of 8% to £129.8m in the year to 31 March 2025.

The Castle of Brecon Hotel revamp has taken inspiration from The Coaching Inn Group’s cosy and warming aesthetic, with each of the hotel rooms being renamed to celebrate the local area taking inspiration from various landmarks located within Brecon, including The Six Peaks Room, The Black Mountain, Sir Charles Morgan and The River Taff.

In addition, two newly refurbished suites will now be available to host meetings and events, The Crug Suite, which can hold between 40-50 guests, and The Usk Suite, which seats 14 to 16 people and will be an ideal venue for private dining.
