It is calling on other operators to follow suit and make a stand against the tariffs until the US “sees sense.”
Titanic Board director Dave Bott said that in protest he was buying Canadian Maple Syrup at home and realised that he could make a bigger statement by introducing a policy across its venues.
Titanic brought in the new policy last week (Friday 11 April) with all American alcoholic products being removed across all its sites.
Stand with us
Jack Daniels, Jim Beam and Californian wine have all been put into storage until the tariff situation is resolved. But they are not permanently delisted and will come back in stock if a solution to the tariff situation is found.
The company has apologised to customers but invited them to “stand with us” and try some of the new alcoholic drinks it is stocking instead.
Bott said: “We are making a stand. It is a small step from a small company. The tariffs have very little impact on our business but this is more altruistic and a bigger issue.”
Join us
He added: “But why isn’t everyone else doing it? Would anyone else like to join us?”
The company already supports and stocks a range of British products including a wide range of Scottish whiskies and to cater for customer preferences it is now listing Canadian whiskies including Canadian Club and Bearface. It is also now in talks with some small UK-based whisky producers.
Online the reaction has been mostly positive to the move.
One respondent said: “Absolutely spot on - well done. Have been saying for two to three weeks now about not buying US products. Well done Titanic.”
Another said: “Totally support your approach.”
