On Saturday 17 May at Wembley Crystal Palace and Manchester City will go head-to-head for the top football accolade.
Payments provider takepayments conducted the research by analysing data, including the average price of a pint in the UK, average beer consumption and the viewership of the final in 2024, to calculate their estimations.
Sport has always been recognised as a great football driver for pubs.
The Oxford Partnership recently revealed that live sport events can have a positive impact on trading. It said that events such as FA Cup and Six Nations boosted footfall in venues.
Stock up and plan
The payments provider advised businesses to stock up and plan their inventory for the big sporting occasion. It said that licensees should review sales data from previous sporting events to gauge the amount of beer and other beverages needed.
Also, pubs should consider having extra stock of popular brands, or customer favourites, and keep a selection of food items in stock, such as snacks and quick bites.
Staffing is also a critical issue during sporting events. It advises pubs to make sure to have a team that can handle busy periods, are trained to handle large groups and offer excellent service, even during peak times.
Economy boost
Jodie Wilkinson, head of strategic partnerships at takepayments said: “Sports events, like the FA Cup Final, can be incredibly exciting and have the potential to grab the attention of the whole nation – not just the fans of the clubs involved.
“Our data shows that these events can help give our economy a much needed boost which is fantastic to see.”
Wilkinson added: “The data and research we undertook highlight just how much could be spent on beer alone, meaning that it can be an exceptionally rewarding time for businesses.
“However, for small businesses, it can also be an incredibly stressful time. From ensuring you have enough stock and staff to creating a quick and easy payment process for customers. It’s for this reason that we want to help by providing simple tips to help these businesses prepare for this event.”
Data was analysed from a number of sources including Statista and Numbeo and takepayments.
