Jeremy Clarkson has said that owning a pub is “more stressful” than running his farm, according to a report in The Telegraph.

The TV presenter and journalist admitted there was a lot of things he has discovered about the industry since opening and running his pub, The Farmer’s Dog, near Burford in Oxfordshire.

According to The Telegraph Clarkson revealed that in comparison to the daily running of Diddly Squat, his farm in the Cotswolds, operating his new pub had been worse for the nerves.

The fourth series, Clarkson’s Farm, is to return to Amazon Prime on 23 May, with The Farmer’s Dog set to feature prominently in the programme.

Opening The Farmer’s Dog

The new season will showcase some of the challenges he has had at the pub, after attempting to open it in time for the August Bank Holiday 2024.

In the trailer for the series it showcases the planned opening with carvery lunch which could not be served due to a power cut.

In The Telegraph he said: “There are so many things you discover about opening and running a pub that you wouldn’t even consider.

“When you and I go in a pub, you ask for a pint, you get a pint, you sit down, maybe have some pork scratchings or something, and it doesn’t look that difficult.

Regulation

“But there’s an enormous amount of regulation on food hygiene and safety. And then you’ve got staffing. You’ve got to try and find chefs, you’ve got to find waitresses, and that’s all very complicated.”

The pub focuses on serving British produce with the pork, beef, lamb and venison all being British as well as the milk, butter, eggs, vegetables and fruit.

The majority of its alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are also sourced from British suppliers.

Most recently Clarkson hit the headlines about his plans for a new car park at the pub. He is awaiting a response about whether he can extend the car parking facilities.
