The Europe’s Best Employer report is an annual record of the top 1,000 employers in Europe, released by the Financial Times with information from data platform Statista.
The criteria for companies to be considered includes having generated revenue of at least €10m in 2023, being independent and being headquartered in Europe.
Following the application phase, Statista then conducted independent company evaluations.
JDW was ranked at 941 with a score of 74.10. Heineken (246), Calrsberg (337), Diageo (398) and Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) (159) were also recommended in the report.
Opportunity to progress
Other firms featured in the report included drinks producer Fever-Tree, Thai restaurant chain Giggling Squid, Wagamma Restaurants and Pizza Express.
JDW head of people Tom Ball said: “We are delighted to be named in the report.
“Our staff are vitally important to the overall success of the individual pubs and the company.
“We strive to offer each of our employees the opportunity to progress within the company.”
In January this year, the pub behemoth was also recognised as one of the ‘top employers’ in the UK by the Top Employer Institute (TEI).
Main ambition
Earlier this month, JDW reported an increase in profits despite a rise in costs.
The trading update stated the company expected a “favourable outcome” for the financial year despite increased tax and wage costs of £1.2m per week.
During the 13-weeks to 27 April 2025 like-for-like sales at JDW were up 5.6% compared to the same period last year, helped by favourable weather.
The 795-strong pub operator said total sales increased by 5% in the quarter and by 4.2% for the year to date.
Chairman of JD Wetherspoon Tim Martin said of the results: “The company’s main ambition, as always, is to improve its appeal to staff and customers.”
