The London Nightlife Taskforce is calling on Londoners and visitors to give their views on all aspects of the capital’s nightlife.

The independent taskforce, which was established by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is urging anyone with an interest in London’s nightlife to give their opinions and help shape its future – from all those involved in creating London’s nightlife to everyone who enjoys it.

The mayor created the taskforce earlier this year to support the late-night sector as it faced a number of challenges, including the long-lasting impact of the pandemic, rising rents, business rates, staff shortages, licensing and planning issues, and cost-of-living and cost-of-doing business pressures.

Recommendations on issues

The taskforce brings together a range of experts from the frontline of the capital’s nightlife to examine and make recommendations on the issues facing the sector.

This latest research, which is being carried out by VibeLab, has been created to hear from a wide variety of people to help the taskforce develop its recommendations for a safe, inclusive, vibrant and sustainable nightlife.

Cameron Leslie, chair of the London Nightlife Taskforce and co-founder and director of fabric, said: “We know London’s nightlife means so much to all those involved, which is why we want to hear from as many people as possible about their experiences and hopes for the future.”

Range of opinions

He added: “From late-night workers and those who regularly enjoy our pubs and clubs, to artists, venue owners or people who haven’t been out in years, we are looking to absorb your ideas, thoughts and feedback on London’s nightlife from the things that you love to how it can change for the better.

“Only by hearing from a wide range of opinions can we develop the recommendations that can help our nighttime economy thrive.”

The research runs until mid-June and the Taskforce will be providing its recommendations this autumn.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan recently announced a £300,000 fund has been made available to support hospitality venues and extend their opening hours. The Summer Streets Fund was launched following the Government’s announcement that the Mayor was to receive new powers to allow him to ‘call in’ blocked licensing applications.
