The takeover will take place across two days in July to celebrate 30 years of rewards through Tesco Clubcard.
Taking place at the Vinyl Factory, London, Tesco will be hosting the ’90s nostalgia party exclusively for Clubcard members. The plan is for visitors to be able to party like it’s 1995, the same year Clubcard launched.
The ’90s event comes as a Tesco survey of 2,000 people over the age of 18 revealed that more than half of Brits (55%) feel nostalgic about the ’90s and early ’00s with the decade’s influence still strong in many areas of life today, from fashion trends to the food and music.
Legendary club nights
As such, 64% of those born in the 1970s and 1980s who partied through the ’90s/’00s said they’d love to relive those ‘legendary’ club nights, while 43% of the nation went as far as to say they thought the ’90s/’00s was the most fun era for going out.
The research also revealed that 66% of those now aged 18-24 say they would have liked to experience a ’90s/’00s night out.
At the two-day event there will be an exclusive headline set from iconic boyband Blue on Friday 4; while on Saturday night (5 July) B*Witched will hit the stage. There will also be a DJ spinning a nonstop mix of ’90s and ’00s classics
Nostalgic night out
A ‘Little Tesco’ bar will be serving drinks such as Smirnoff Ices, J2Os and Blue WKD, and a Pick ‘n’ Mix. The club will be filled with inflatable furniture, neon lights and retro TVs
Each ticket costs £5 which gives entry to Club Card, and three drinks to enjoy during the event, plus a chance to win all those goodies and plenty of little extras too. Proceeds will be donated 50/50 to FareShare and Trussell.
Tesco group membership and loyalty director Shama Wilson said: “Club Card is an up-to-date take on the legendary nineties and noughties nights out, whether you experienced them the first time or are finally getting to see what all the fuss was about.
“Nostalgia is everywhere this year, so this is our way to celebrate Clubcard’s 30th birthday with members, both those that were shopping with us in 1995 and everyone who has joined us since.”
