More than half of Brits without a ticket to this year’s Glastonbury festival would prefer to watch the event in a pub.
According to a recent survey from music licensing company PPL PRS, two in three (65%) of 500 people surveyed in May this year said they would tune into Glastonbury Festival despite not having tickets.
Some 54% of the respondents added they would watch the live music event at a pub or bar if it were being shown, while a fifth (18%) said they had already planned to do so.
Most anticipated
This year’s Glastonbury festival will take place in Somerset between Wednesday 25 June and Sunday 29 June, with acts including Rod Stewart, the 1975, the Prodigy, Neil Young and Charli XCX set to take the stage.
Rod Stewart was the most anticipated act for Brits, particularly those aged between 55 and 64, who will be watching via a screen this year, followed by The Prodigy and Neil Young. Gen Z respondents were most looking forward to watching Charli XCX.
Atmosphere (61%), big screens (41%) and food and drinks (41%) were the most important things for customers when choosing a venue to watch the festival.
PPL PRS’ research also found 55% of consumers were likely to buy more drinks than usual at pubs screening the festival, while two-fifths (42%) would stay at the venue longer than a typical visit.
Right atmosphere
A further three in 10 (29%) would even be more likely to return to the venue on another day after the festival.
PPL PRS music therapist Marianne Rizkallah said: “Glastonbury Festival is one of the most iconic dates in the UK music calendar. It’s a time when the nation comes together to celebrate our love of music – with it comes an immense sense of community and togetherness.
“It’s great that we can find ways to celebrate even without tickets. It marks a great opportunity for hospitality businesses too.
“In creating the right atmosphere by replicating the festival vibes from their event space or beer garden, they could see real benefits to customers, employees and their bottom line.”
