In challenging times, collaboration isn’t a nice to have – it’s essential for the long term success of the hospitality sector.

The LTC’s new strategic partnership with the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) couldn’t come at a better time for the pub sector. It delivers practical, joined-up support for both people and businesses.

Pubs have always been places where people come together. In fact, I would argue the reason our sector has been so resilient in the face of cost pressures, labour shortages, and unpredictable trading conditions is that collaboration and community are in the very DNA of the pub.

There’s no getting around the challenges the industry is facing now, but the more we are able to pool knowledge, support, and resourcing, the more capable the whole sector will be to overcome them.

For our part, at the LTC, we want to be a driver of this collaboration so that our fantastic publicans and pub teams are able to more easily access support when they need it.

For those who run and work in pubs, resilience has become an essential skill. But it can’t be built alone. We all need support to develop the personal and business resilience needed to face the challenges head-on and succeed.

Navigate pressures

That’s why at the LTC, we see this as the moment to be joining forces – not just with the people we help, but with the organisations who share our mission.

At our inaugural LTC Wellbeing Conference in April, we announced the new strategic partnership with the BII.

The collaboration’s purpose is to help people in the licensed trade by supporting mental health, financial wellbeing, and workplace resilience. This is needed now more than ever – BII’s recent member survey found that less than one in four rate their mental health and resilience as good or excellent, and nearly 40% rate it as poor.

We truly believe this collaboration between LTC and the BII is a game changer in delivering the wrap around support that people working in pubs require.

The LTC is well placed to look after wellbeing and personal resilience, while the BII has the expertise to support operators with their business needs and advocate for a more profitable industry.

Together, we offer a joined-up support system that gives pub teams the tools they need to navigate pressures and pave the way for a sustainable future.

Ultimately, the partnership means between us, our funds can go further, and we can transform more lives and unleash more potential – and that’s good for people and business.

Shared mission

Personal wellbeing and business performance are two sides of the same coin. When stress goes unaddressed, it takes a direct toll on productivity, retention and customer service. But too often, wellbeing can feel like an optional extra for businesses.

That’s where this partnership comes in. The BII brings a community of over 13,000 pub operators, along with business support, training, and industry advocacy.

Meanwhile, the LTC brings a range of wellbeing support, including free mental health services, a new Wellbeing Platform with more than 6,500 resources, and a Wellbeing Calculator to help pubs understand the financial impact of absenteeism in their business and the ROI of wellbeing support for employees.

What this means in practice is that pub people now have a streamlined route to get help before a challenge becomes a crisis. Whether it’s work stress, financial pressures, or personal challenges, support is available, confidential, and easy to access.

It’s all part of one shared mission: to help pubs succeed by allowing the people behind them to thrive.

Our industry is built on people, and no pub can succeed without the teams who bring it to life every day. And that’s why supporting wellbeing isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s good business sense.

So, if you’re a publican or part of a pub team, now’s the time to invest in yourself and your teams.

Together, the LTC and BII are making sure no one in pubs has to face their challenges alone – providing practical, joined-up support to build resilience for years to come.
