Upham Inns purchases 14 pubs from Oakman Inns

Upham Inns, the south of England pub and accommodation group, has purchased 14 pubs from Oakman Inns, doubling the size of its estate to 28.

Upham Inns are a collection of countryside inns, primarily with boutique bedrooms. It originated in Hampshire with the the collection growing from Winchester to Warminster and Ascot. This purchase will extend its estate into the Midlands and south east beyond its core heartland.

No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Pub purchase

The pubs purchased are:

  • Kings Arms, Berkhamsted (13 rooms)
  • Penny Farthing (no pub - a block of 19 rooms)
  • The Woburn (55 rooms)
  • The Pointer, Brill (nine rooms)
  • Betsey Wynne, Swanbourne
  • Lost Boy, Farnham
  • Navigation Inn, Cosgrove
  • Old Post Office, Wallingford
  • Red Lion, Leighton Buzzard
  • The 3 Locks, Milton Keynes
  • The Four Alls, Welford-upon-Avon
  • Beech House, Beaconsfield
  • The Beech House, Amersham
  • The Beech house, St Albans
  • The Beech House, Solihull

Earlier this year it was revealed that Oakman Group’s founder and chief executive Peter Borg-Neal had stepped away from the business due to illness, with chairman John Leslie heading the 30-strong business.

In May, The Restaurant Group announced the purchase of 10 freehold pubs for Brunning & Price from Oakman Group.

Upham Inns executive chairman Kevin Todd, said: “We have been long term admirers of the Oakman Inns pub estate and the quality of their team and their offer, ever since Peter Borg-Neal founded the group back in 2007.”

Premium pub group

He added: “We look forward to welcoming the new team into our family and working together to create an exciting premium pub group, now with 28 fabulous locations. Upham Inns are currently in Southern locations, and this deal extends our coverage into the Midlands and Southeast.”

At the end of last year Upham Inns revealed posted a boost in revenue and gross profit in its results for its financial results. For the financial year ended 31 March 2024 it reported revenue had grown by 4.5% from £18.4m last year to £19.3m.

The Upham Inns estate includes pubs such as the White Hart in Overton, the George Inn in Warminster and the Winning Post in Winkfield.
