Young’s pubs has announced a limited rerun of its Waggle Dance pale ale to mark its 194th anniversary this month.

Available from Thursday 18 September, Waggle Dance will be on offer at just 24 Young’s pubs while stocks last to mark the company’s milestone 194th year in business.

The Pubs include the Bath Brew House and Bath Cider House in Bath alongside the Highbury Vaults, Hort’s Townhouse, Lock Keeper and Kings Street Brew House in Bristol.

Cambridge sites the Cambridge Brew House, the Old Ticket Office, Petersfield, Waterman and the Station Tavern are also participating in the rerun.

Celebrations

A cask will also be available at select pubs in Cardiff, Devon, Exeter, Norwich, Exmouth, Ford, Radlett and Plymouth.

Young’s Pubs across its 280-strong estate will also be celebrating the anniversary with parties and festivities, including a complimentary pint of Young’s for all user of its ‘On Tap’ app and a charity donation drive to raise funds for children’s rugby charity, Wooden Spoon.

Brewed by Young’s head brewer Simon Perrett at the King Street Brewhouse in Bristol, Waggle Dance has been made with crystal malt and infused with raw honey harvested from bee hives at Young’s pub the White Bear in Kennington.

Blended with hops to add subtle character and balance the bitterness, the end result is a golden ale 4% ABV with honey and caramel notes.

The brew, which was originally taken on by Young’s in 1999, was named after the dance a bee makes to tell its hive about a source of nectar.

Unmistakable sweetness

Perrett said: “Bringing back the honey-based Waggle Dance felt like the perfect way to mark Young’s 194th birthday.

“Part of the pub group’s brewing heritage, this beer is iconic in its unmistakable sweetness which comes from specialty malt extract and all-natural raw honey.”

In its latest trading update, the pubco said it is “confident about the year ahead” despite ongoing economic challenges.

Posted in July, Young’s reported revenue for the first 14 weeks of the financial year beginning Tuesday 1 April 2025 were up 6.6% in total and 7% on a like-for-like basis against last year, attributed to strong trading momentum from brighter weather and sporting events.
