The Three Compasses, located on Dunsfold Road in Alfold, shared the news on its social media pages earlier this week, stating its final day of trading would be Sunday 28 September.
It explained the business had seen a decline since the loss of access to a local aerodrome and could no longer survive.
Great sadness
Shared on Monday 22 September, the post said: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce our final day of trading will be this Sunday 28 September 2025.
“The recent months have been very tough for us here at the Three Compasses, with the Compass Gate shutting for aerodrome access, business has seen an enormous decline, and we can no longer financially survive as a result.
“We hope everyone can understand that this decision has taken us a while to reach as we’ve loved getting to know all of our local customers and are so very grateful for everyone that has showed their continued support. We wish everyone the best and hope to see you all again soon.”
Rural pub
The pub is owned by Stonegate, the UK’s largest pub company, and is currently available for rent on its pub partners website on a fixed term tenancy.
Earlier this month, the pubco announced plans to sell 23 free-of-tie sites as part of a portfolio shake-up.
Described as a large “rural pub with an established local trade”, the site is being advertised as available with an introductory rental of £15k for year one.
The listing added the Three Compasses, which is on the Surrey and West Sussex boarder, boasts a large beer garden with an outdoor pergola and children’s play area.
The Morning Advertiser (The MA) contacted Stonegate and the Three Compasses for comment but had not received one at the time of publication.
