Raising vital funds: Alf Turner partners with Stonegate to raise money for Help for Heroes (Help for Heroes)

Alf Turner butchers has joined forces with the UK’s biggest pubco to raise money for veterans charity Help for Heroes.

The award-winning brand, which is backed by Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Peter Jones, has announced its Hero IPA will be sold at select Stonegate pubs this autumn to raise money for the charity.

Hero IPA will initially launch in Publican Partnership pubs at the end of this month before being introduced at 174 Craft Union sites, Stonegate’s operator led division.

Released to coincide with Remembrance Day, the brew will be available in Craft Union pubs from Wednesday 5 November.

The timing gives customers the chance to raise a glass in honour of the UK’s armed forces community, with a portion of the proceeds from every pint sold going to Help for Heroes.

Vital funds

Funds raised will help the national charity continue to support wounded, injured and sick veterans and their families.

Alf Turner founder Paul Turner told The Morning Advertiser (The MA): “We’re delighted Stonegate is bringing Hero IPA into its pubs, particularly at this poignant time of year.

“The beer was created to celebrate and support our armed forces, and with Remembrance Day approaching, we hope pub-goers across the country will join us in raising both a glass and vital funds for Help for Heroes.”

Brewed exclusively for Alf Turner by Surrey-based Hogsback Brewery, the beer was originally released in May this year to raise money for Help for Heroes and mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

A mellow Indian Pale Ale with an ABV of 4%, the Hero IPA, available in cask and keg format, has been crafted using Hogs Back’s home-grown Cascade hops and Mosaic hops from the USA.

The unique combination resulted in a beer bursting with citrus and tropical notes, offering a refreshing and flavourful experience.

Brewed with purpose

Hogsback Brewery managing director Miles Chesterman added: “We’re proud to brew Hero IPA for Alf Turner. It’s a beer with real character, crafted with care here in Surrey, and brewed for a purpose that goes far beyond the glass.

“Knowing that each pint poured in Stonegate pubs will help support our veterans makes this partnership especially meaningful for us.”

The family butcher, which also has a number of products available for pubs including pork scratchings, has been supporting Help for Heroes since 2010, raising more than £305k for the charity through sales of its products.

This new Stonegate partnership is expected to raise a further £2,000–£3,000 for the charity.

Stonegate group commercial director Nick Marks said: “Pubs are central to community life, and this campaign gives our customers the chance to come together, enjoy a great beer, and support a charity that makes a real difference to veterans and their families.”
