The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) has recognised TV’s Jeremy Clarkson for his contribution to the hospitality industry at its Annual Dinner, held in Leeds earlier this week (7 October 2025).

Clarkson received the BBPA’s Industry Champion Award, presented by chief executive Emma McClarkin, for his efforts in bringing “national attention” to the challenges facing brewers and publicans through his Hawkstone beer brand and the launch of his first pub, the Farmer’s Dog.

National attention

McClarkin said: “This year’s winners each shine a light on what makes our industry so special: its passion, its resilience and its people. Jeremy Clarkson has brought national attention to the realities of running a pub, even saying it’s harder than running a farm – a reminder of just how challenging it can be for publicans right now.”

The BBPA Chairman’s Award, introduced by BBPA Chairman and Greene King CEO Nick Mackenzie, was jointly awarded to Katy Moses of KAM and Steve Alton of the British Institute of Innkeeping.

The pair were recognised for their industry initiative, which has raised £1.4m over the past four years through the Hospitality Rides and Pedalling for Pubs fundraisers.

Best of the sector

McClarkin added: “Katy Moses and Steve Alton have shown the best of our sector through their incredible fundraising efforts with Hospitality Rides and Pedalling for Pubs, supporting colleagues and causes that make a real difference.”

“Their achievements underline why it’s so important that the Chancellor backs our sector at the Autumn Budget by cutting beer duty and delivering meaningful business rates reform to unlock investment and growth for Britain’s vital beer and pub industry.”

Katy Moses said: “It’s such an honour to receive this award alongside Steve. The work of the BBPA in championing our sector is invaluable, especially at a time when so many pubs and breweries face real pressures.”

“This award is for the 30 riders from four different countries that have pushed through their own personal boundaries and given everything they have to this industry and the communities that we support.”

Steve Alton added: “I’m absolutely delighted to be recognised with Katy for our work through Pedalling for Pubs, and it’s a real privilege to work so closely with the BBPA in supporting our sector – massive thank you to all the pubs and publicans that welcomed us with open arms at each of their respective venues.”
