Prime location: Flight Club opens seventh site this year in Newcastle

Red Engine has opened a new Flight Club venue in Newcastle, marking its seventh opening so far in 2025.

Opening on Friday 7 Nov in the city’s at Eldon Square, Flight Club Newcastle is the 29th Flight Club venue to open globally since the first bar opened in Shoreditch, London.

The 400-capacity site features two bars and 14 semi-private oches. Designed by Red Engine’s award-winning in-house team, the venue also features nods to the city’s industrial and shipbuilding heritage.

Flight Club Newcastle will offer a combination of experiential gaming, premium cocktail service, and high-quality sharing dishes in a fairground-meets-Victorian-pub environment.

Prime location

Flight Club CEO and co-founder Steve Moore said, “We’ve had Newcastle firmly in our sights as a prime location for Flight Club for some time.

“The renowned social energy of Newcastle’s locals and the city’s vibrant nightlife perfectly align with our brand proposition. We believe it’s the perfect fit for Flight Club, and we can’t wait to open our doors to welcome the community.

“We’re confident that our newest venue will be a well-loved addition to Newcastle’s leisure landscape.”

It comes after RedCat secured investment totalling £70m as part of its five-year growth plan, which is focused on expansion and continued innovation across both its brands, Flight Club and Electric Shuffle.

Last month the competitive socialising group reported full year turnover of £80.4m for the 52 weeks to 29 December 2024, up from £68.6m in 2023.

Busy programme

Venue EBITDA rose to £22m and group EBITDA to £13m. On a like for like basis, sales across venues open in both years were down 1%. The group recorded a statutory loss after tax of £8m, reflecting higher administrative and finance costs.

Growth was driven by a busy opening programme. In 2024 the company opened Electric Shuffle in Manchester and New York, alongside Flight Club in Liverpool and Oxford.

Meanwhile Flight Club venues in Washington, St Louis, Dublin and Philadelphia and Electric Shuffle sites in Chicago and London’s King’s Cross have opened this year.

These additions have taken the total Red Engine and partners venue portfolio to 38. Still to come for 2025 is Flight Club Cincinnati, leaving the number of Flight Club and Electric Shuffle venues worldwide standing at 39 by year-end.
