Haven has announced plans to invest £9m into expanding its partnership with JD Wetherspoon (JDW) next year.

The holiday park operator is set to open new pubs at Cala Gran in Blackpool, Lakeland in Cumbria, Riviere Sands in Cornwall and Hopton in Norfolk as part of its exclusive partnership with JDW.

Haven will invest £9m into the four pubs as part of a wider £14m programme of upgrades to food and beverage outlets this winter. It will bring the total number of JDW sites at Haven Parks to nine.

The first pub to open as part of the deal was at Haven’s Primrose Valley Holiday Park in Filey, North Yorkshire, in March 2024.

Strength to strength

Following this, four more JDW pubs were built at Haggerston Castle near Berwick, Northumberland, Cleethorpes Beach in Lincolnshire, Devon Cliffs near Exmouth and Kent Coast near Rochester.

Since launching the partnership, Haven and JDW have served 907,000 main meals, 288,000 breakfasts and pulled 692,201 pints across the five sites.

JDW commercial director Michael Barron said: “Our partnership with Haven continues to go from strength to strength.

“We are delighted four new J D Wetherspoon pubs will open at Haven parks in 2026 and are confident they will prove popular with Haven’s holidaymakers and owners.”

Last month, JDW chair Tim Martin told The Morning Advertiser (The MA) franchising played a key role in the pub company’s growth.

Key role

“Franchising could be very important, especially if we can copy companies like Starbucks and open up in Japan, China and India,” he said.

The group also signed a new franchise agreement with The Papas Group in September, allowing the fish and chip restaurant operator to run JDW-branded pubs in coastal towns.

While cost increases have made new projects “more difficult” for the pub giant, which operates some 800 sites across the UK, Martin said the group planned to open 15 new sites this year while maintaining capital reinvestment across the estate.

The comments followed JDW’s £25m investment drive across new pubs, major refurbishments and expanded franchise partnerships earlier this year.
