Located at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport in Spain, the new-build pub, which will be named Castell de Santa Bàrbera, is scheduled to open at the end of January 2026.
Totalling almost 1,000 sqft, the Castell de Santa Bàrbera will be set across one level with an external terrace area with additional seating.
It will be in the airside departures section of the Spanish airport and will open seven days a week from 6am to 9pm.
Food will be served at all times up to an hour before closing.
Continued investment
The menu will include similar options to those available in JDW pubs in the UK, including breakfast dishes, burgers and pizzas, as well as local dishes such as garlic prawns and Spanish omelette.
JDW founder and chairman Tim Martin said: “We are very much looking forward to opening our first overseas pub.
“We believe it will be popular with people travelling home from Alicante Airport.”
Martin added the group, which operates around 800 sites in the UK, intended to open a number of overseas pubs in the coming months and years, including more at airports.
After investing £25m into its estate so far this year, JDW is set to open a further four new pubs before Christmas in Newcastle, Croydon, Stockton-on-Tees and Wetherby, with a new site in Beaconsfield set to follow suit in January.
Long-term growth
It has also expanded its franchise arm with the investment.
Earlier this week, JDW announced the opening of a new venue at the University of Birmingham, in partnership with the school’s Guild of Students.
Meanwhile, some £8m has been invested into its collaboration with Haven holiday parks, with five pubs currently open and a further four set to open next Spring. In September, the group also signed a new franchise agreement with the Papas Group.
In its October trading update, JDW said it remained “well placed to succeed despite cost pressures”, with Martin reaffirming the company’s commitment to long-term growth, regional job creation and continued investment in pub openings and refurbishments.
