Grand Marnier is a blend of Cognac brandy and Liqueur d’Orange, which is distributed in the UK by Booker.
Booker liqueur category manager Gavin Troman shares how to make a “bright and citrus” cocktail using the serve.
He told The Morning Advertiser (The MA) the recipe is perfect served as a leisurely aperitif or early evening drink and goes well with salty snacks like crisps, pretzels or almonds.
Underused liqueur
In addition, the category manager said the cocktail is a great way to incorporate an “underused liqueur” that’s likely already on the back bar.
“It’s easy to assemble, can be prepared individually in the glass with no equipment required, and has a high perceived value. A tray of these arriving at the table is really striking, brings the wow factor to the occasion, and gets the party started”, he continued.
The category manager advised the cocktail costs around £2.27 to create, with a suggested selling price of £9.00. It also taps into moderation trends, offering a lower ABV that others thanks to the tonic water.
He added: “When presented as a spritz-style serve like this, it can tap into the pre-dinner moment. It’s a light and refreshing aperitif that can be enjoyed while guests wait for their party to arrive.”
Boosting sales
For a twist on the serve, Troman advised operators to swap the tonic water for lemonade, soda or a flavoured tonic such as Mediterranean or clementine.
He suggested highlighting the serve on specials menu board or signposts on the bar to boost sales.
While the drink is perfect for cosy winter occasions, Troman said the cocktail can be enjoyed year round: “While it’s a winner at this time of year, it’s popular all year round and can be enjoyed in summer months for outdoor drinking and afterwork drinks.
“It’s popular among drinkers of all ages - whether groups of friends, families, work colleagues, community groups and for sports match viewings.”
