As sport continues to drive trade in many pubs, publicans may be wise to sign up to TNT Sports after the broadcaster announced it will show 26 FA Cup matches in 10 days this month.

Kam and TNT Sports data showed 85% of football fans said they are more likely to visit the pub this January to watch FA Cup matches live on TV.

TNT Sports will deliver 22 live men’s matches as third round of the competition begins with three Friday night fixtures, headlined by Wrexham v Nottingham Forest, on 9 January, and coverage of the men’s fixtures concludes on Monday 12 January when Liverpool host League One challengers Barnsley at Anfield.

Additionally, the Emirates FA Cup fourth round draw will be shown live from Anfield ahead of kick-off on TNT Sports 1, as teams bid to emulate the achievement of Crystal Palace, who won the competition last season.

Classic encounters

A few days later, the spotlight turns to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round with action being shown from Thursday 15 January to Sunday 18 January as four fixtures are set to be screened.

TNT Sports vice-president commercial sport Alasdair Collis said: “We are excited to broadcast more FA Cup men’s and women’s games than ever before, capturing the very essence of this world-renowned cup competition. As Premier League, Championship and Women’s Super League teams enter, the stage is set for those classic David v Goliath encounters.

“January can be a tough month for the on-trade, but with 26 live matches over 10 days, our research shows the FA Cup will help pubs bring customers through the doors.

“Some 85% of football fans say that the FA Cup is more likely to prompt a pub visit and – when compared to other traditional pub occasions, such as live music, quiz nights and meals out – 66% of football fans say live FA Cup football will be the thing most likely to encourage them out of the house and into their local this January.

Lucrative audience

“In addition, football fans represent a very lucrative audience for pubs, with 73% saying they spend more in pubs when there is football on TV.”

The sports provider will broadcast an Emirates FA Cup edition of the Goals Show Extra on Saturday 10 January beginning at 12pm that will capture every goal from around the grounds, including all 10 matches kicking off at 3pm.
