New look: Shepherd Neame invests £1.8m into Hoop & Grapes in London (Shepherd Neame)

Shepherd Neame is reopening a landmark London pub next month (February) following a £1.8m renovation.

The Hoop & Grapes in Farringdon, which closed in 2019 due to redevelopments in the area, will welcome customers once again in February.

Six years on, the pub has been reimagined. Customers will have the choice of three unique zones: a classic ground-floor bar with courtyard garden; a relaxed first-floor seating space with covered and heated terrace; and an intimate third-floor piano room for dining and special occasions.

Sustainability and heritage front-of-mind

The restoration began in October with sustainability in mind. Back-of-house improvements include energy-efficient fridges, smart cellar technology and LED lighting, while the kitchen has been moved from the cellar to the second floor to accommodate new customer facilities below.

The Grade II-listed building, dating back to 1721, was once notorious for hosting illicit ‘Fleet Marriages’. Its history is reflected in a new wedding-themed swing sign and hand-painted signage.

This latest development is part of the Kent-based brewer’s wider investment in its premium London estate, following the freehold acquisition of the Bishops Finger and major refurbishments at the Tom Cribb, Westminster Arms and White Horse and Bower.

Long-term investment a priority

CEO Jonathan Neame recently told to the Morning Advertiser (The MA) long-term investment remains a priority for the business.

The brewer reported “solid” pub sales in October 2025, with like-for-like sales remaining strong across its estate.

The relaunch comes with a refined food and drink offer, featuring speciality oysters alongside a range of Shepherd Neame beers, premium English wines and cocktails.

Operations Manager Ryan Torrie said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming customers back to the Hoop and Grapes after more than four years. As Farringdon continues its evolution, we have taken care to ensure our transformation celebrates the pub’s unique heritage while offering a refined, contemporary experience.”
