Winning the same category at the Publican Awards three years in a row is almost unheard of but Cheshire Cat Pubs & Bars has done just that, taking home the Best Drinks title once again.

Founded in 2009, the North-West based multiple operator, owned by Tim Bird and Mary McLaughlin, has achieved the ‘drinks hat-trick’.

Judges praised the business for its strong culture and unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Offer strengthened

Over the past year, Cheshire Cat has strengthened its offer by hosting a wide range of drinks and food events across its pubs. Successful events have included whisky-and-food pairing evenings at The Bulls Head and the lively Rum & Music Fest at the Mainwaring Arms.

Each pub has a dedicated ‘drinks champions’ who focus on key products of wine, beer, and spirits. These in-house experts share their knowledge with both staff and guests, ensuring every pub delivers consistently high standards in drinks training, education, and service.

Cheshire Cat Pubs & Bars prides itself on differentiation and innovation, with each of its seven pubs championing a specific drinks category.

Local focus

The Bulls Head pub champions whisky with over 100 behind the bar, the Cholmondeley Arms champions gin with over 300, the Three Greyhounds specialises in brandy, while the Church Inn focuses on wine with a finer list. Meanwhile, the Fitzherbert Arms champions Port wine, the Roebuck Inn on old world wines and the Mainwaring Arms champions Rum.

The company also supports local producers by showcasing cask ales sourced from within a 35‑mile radius of its pubs. It also works closely with its suppliers who support keeping us ahead in terms of drinks training, drinks development, new trends and innovations

It has also continued to develop its no and low strategy that has seen a strong increase in sales for the company.

The company has the ambition to shine a beacon on what makes a pub great drinks-wise.
