Use less for a lower impact
What is really interesting is what this means for pubs sustainability and viability. Both threats require us to do the same things. Reduce power usage and reliance on gas as fast as possible.
Wars will always knacker global supply chains. Key supply chains break within two to three weeks of the ships stopping or slowing. Today gas, diesel and CO2 have risen in price. If you use less, the impact on your profits is less and your business is stronger.
So look at all the investments you can do now that make sense with higher prices. Gas cooking kit to induction and electric. Investment in electricity reduction or insulation. Zero Carbon Forum is the best place to find out quickly what works. Payback is much quicker nowadays as the kit is better and cheaper and the savings are better.
Word hard to be sustainable
Wars are not going away it seems. Nor is climate change. And nor is improving your business by reducing waste and making clever investments. Following the sustainability and net zero advice will make your business stronger. Pubs need work hard to be sustainable and viable. Why not check out those in the know? This is really significant now.
Next time, I’ll talk about the wider challenge of being truly sustainable long-term looking after your people and staying viable.
