Do pubs really add value to society? In the season finale of the Lock In podcast, the team take a deep dive to assess the real social value of pubs

With a recent report assessing the social value of pubs at £1.3m, we speak to report authors Professor Ignazio Cabras from the Univeristy of Northumberland and Jon Dale from Punch Pubs & Co to discuss the findings.

We also take a look at the importance of community pubs with Terry Cole of the Royal Oak in Chapel Ash, and Simon Collinson of Oak Taverns and we’ll be having a look at the impact of what happens to communities when pubs close with two former customers of the Hare and Hounds in Bowbridge, Tim Atwood and Stuart Lord, along with Dr Tom Thurnell-Read from Loughborough University.

And finally, we catch up with UKHospitality CEO Allen Simpson and BII boss Steve Alton to ask why these messages aren’t resonating with Government.

So, what do you think? Do pubs offer social value?

This is the final episode of season six of the Lock In podcast, but don’t panic, we’ll be back with an unprecedented season seven in the Autumn!
