Sharing an update on social media, a spokesperson for the pub said the incident had been “very upsetting” for the team and the community.
The post, shared to Facebook later on Sunday, said: “Very upsetting and heart-breaking post.
“Due to a mindless idiot early this morning we have some very damaged benches and lost almost all our hanging baskets.

“We all work hard here at the New Inn and this just devastates us. However, up we get and we will try to get everything back to normal for our amazing customers.”
Pictures shared to the social media platform showed several overturned and smashed picnic-style benches as well as a number of shattered plant pots, with flowers and soil strewn across the garden.
The pub later confirmed via Facebook the incident had been captured on CCTV and sent to the police, adding it intended to press charges.
Customers were quick to support the community pub, which is part of Punch Pubs & Co. managed estate, offering their assistance to help with any repairs in the comments.
Others commented condemning the vandalism, describing it as “mindless” and “disgusting”.
Punch Pubs & Co. head of operations Sarah Edmunds told The Morning Advertiser (The MA): “We were disappointed to learn of the vandalism at the New Inn pub over the weekend.
Community support
“We are in contact with our management partner and are providing support as they get the pub’s outdoor area back into shape.
“The response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive and much appreciated.”
The damage comes during the busy summer trading period, when pub gardens are an important draw for customers and a key source of revenue for operators.
Located alongside the Stainforth and Keadby Canal, the New Inn is known locally for its waterfront outdoor seating, as well as its traditional pub food offer, community events and coverage of live sporting events.
