Born in Tennessee, USA, in 1946, Parton rose from humble beginnings as one of 12 children to become one of the world’s most successful singer-songwriters.
Successful empire
Her six-decade career produced country classics including I Will Always Love You, earning her 10 Grammy Awards, while she also found success in film, business and philanthropy.
She launched Dolly Wines in the UK in 2024, while her business empire also includes Dollywood, the Tennessee theme park she co-founded in 1986 and which celebrates her Appalachian roots.
Away from entertainment, Parton founded the Imagination Library, which has provided millions of books to children worldwide. She was also awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1984.
Firm favourites
In the UK, her music has long been a familiar part of the pub soundtrack, with tracks including Jolene and 9 to 5 firm favourites for a singalong at the bar.
Following her death, pubs and hospitality venues across the UK have been celebrating the life and music of the country legend.
In Middlesborough, the Parkway Pub has organised a celebration of Parton’s life and music for late October.
Operators at the Ship in Emsworth vowed the keep playing Parton’s music and honouring her memory.
Meanwhile, the Crockett’s Hotel in Newcastle-Upon-Thyme has dedicated its Bank Holiday Sunday to honouring Parton’s memory, asking customers to share their favourite songs.
The Seven Sisters in Brighton also shared a touching tribute to Parton on social media, describing her as a “true legend”.
Meanwhile, Leicester’s Shoemakers Pub has put out a call for country singers as it looks to organise a tribute event for Parton.
