Phil Cutter named third and final Sky Business GOAT winner

Phil Cutter, Landlord at The Murderers in Norwich, has been named the third national winner in Sky Business’ Greatest Of All Trade campaign.

The campaign, launched earlier this summer, celebrates individuals who help deliver outstanding sport-viewing experiences in pubs and bars across the UK.

On receiving the award, Phil Cutter said:

“I’m ecstatic that we’ve been recognised as a Sky Business GOAT. But it isn’t just me, it’s the team behind me as well.”

Cutter continued:

“My wife comes down to clean every morning. I’ve got staff that have been with me nearly ten years - that loyalty is something that’s really important to us.”

“I’m very proud that we’ve been recognised.”

Dave Holdsworth, punter at The Murderers believes Phil Cutter is a worth winner of the award.

Holdsworth said:

“Phil’s just a great guy. Whenever you come in, whether it’s 11 in the morning or almost half past eight at night, he’s always full of cracks and jokes. He’s just always pleased to see you.”

Holdsworth continued:

“The Murderers is probably one of the best sports bars that I’ve actually ever been in. It’s a pub you can come into from anywhere and you’ll be treated as a local.”

Jake Cutter, son of winner Phil, said:

“The Murderers is a safe space for all. I think that’s something that my Dad has tried to create.”

“Making sure anyone and everyone is welcome. Making sure that everyone feels safe in a pub environment.”

Phil Cutter explained about the importance of sport at The Murderers.

Phil said:

“Sport is massively important to us. We’ve built up such a great reputation for showing sport. It’s not just football. It’s also Rugby, Darts, F1. You name it and we will show it here.”

Phil Cutter joins William Blake, Assistant Manager at Charlies’ Bar in Enniskillen, and Shailesh Dixit, landlord of The Local in Chartham, as the third and final winner of Sky Business’ Greatest Of All Trade campaign.

As part of the award, Phil, William and Shailesh will all receive a Sky Sports VIP experience of their choice. Prizes include access to Premier League hospitality, the Super League Grand Final, international cricket, or the British Grand Prix.

The Greatest Of All Trade campaign was created to shine a light on the people who go the extra mile on matchdays, ensuring customers have the best possible viewing experience.

Recent research highlights the value of live sport in licensed venues:

  • 87% of out-of-home sport viewers say live sport at a pub or bar encourages them to visit more often
  • 90% say it gives them more of a reason to go out
  • 72% of licensees with Sky say sport-viewing customers are now more important to their success than before the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis
