The Royal Exchange has come onto the market after its owners, Dave and Pat Buxton, decided to leave the trade after a short stint at the Torrington pub. Michael Easton, of the Exeter office of Christie & Co, said: "Our clients bought the business in February 2003 and are now looking to return to their previous occupations." He added: "Within their short ownership, they have improved the trade, but an ample opportunity still exists to continue their good trading practices." Easton said that the couple had improved food sales at the Devon pub, but buyers could unleash more potential by relocating the downstairs kitchen to the upstairs store room. He said Dave was a keen follower of the Monster Raving Loony party (founded in 1963 by Screaming Lord Sutch) and this helped promote the pub during his fundraising exploits. "The Royal Exchange takes up a prominent position on New Street, which is the main road leading out of Torrington to-wards Bideford. The mid-terraced property consists of a main bar and a pool room with a second bar. On the first floor, there is owner's accommodation. Externally, the property has a beer garden, which has a children's playframe, three benches and a patio area. Christie & Co is seeking £310,000 for the leasehold of the Royal Exchange.
