The organisers of National Taste of Game Fortnight have toasted it as a "huge success".
The UK's largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), co-ordinated the event, which ran from 6 to 20 November.
The fortnight aimed to capitilise on the growing popularity of game and further raise awareness of the meats.
To this end, a three-day game tasting event was staged at Borough Market in London. Celebrity chefs and restaurateurs from venues including the Cinnamon Kitchen and Vatika in London cooked and prepared game dishes "with a twist". BASC encouraged Indian restaurants to put game meat on the menu as part of the campaign.
Game tasting events were held across the country including one at Burton-on-Trent's newly opened National Brewery Centre, at the Globe Hotel in Topsham, Devon, and at the Yew Tree Inn in Bunbury, Cheshire, where the fortnight's Game's On beer was sold.
The organisation also joined up with Harrods and independent supermarket chain Booths to promote game meat. Ten thousand Harrods branded BASC recipe leaflets were printed to be given out at the store's famous food hall and 25,000 leaflets were available to Booths customers.
"The response to this year's National Taste of Game event has been absolutely phenomenal," said BASC director of operations Simon Hamlyn."We have encouraged many more people to enjoy eating game which is fantastic. Game meat is fabulous. It is delicious, wild and extremely versatile and it can be locally sourced. We will continue to build on our efforts to get even more people eating game."
