Stonegate, the managed pub and bar operator, is looking to nearly double the size of its Slug & Lettuce estate and is believed to have earmarked a further 65 sites for the brand across the UK.

The company has hired Colliers and Davis Coffer Lyons to acquire freehold and leasehold units of 4,000 to 5,000sq ft across an extensive range of locations.

It has instructed Colliers to acquire new sites in more than 40 locations across the UK, as part of a continued investment and roll-out programme for its revamped brand. It has also instructed Davis Coffer Lyons to engage in a similar exercise in central London boroughs, to identify up to 25 sites.

Locations nationally include Cambridge; Tunbridge Wells, Kent; Liverpool; Sheffield; Brighton; Bristol; Glasgow; and Cardiff.

Slug and Lettuce currently operates 72 sites, having experienced three years of double-digit like-for-like sales growth.

Stonegate has spent more than £4m investing in 31 sites in the second trading quarter, the company has told M&C Report.

Investments have included two Popworld bars in Swansea and Birmingham; Slug & Lettuce sites in Harpenden, Herts, Cheltenham, Gloucs, and Lincoln; along with Yates’s in Swindon, Wilts, and several unbranded pubs. The most recent to open this week is Bedfords in Southampton, Hants.
