Cornish craft brewery Verdant Brewing Co is seeking to raise £25,000 to build a bar and taproom.

The brewery that was founded in 2015 and awarded the title of UK’s Best New Brewer in the 2016 RateBeer awards, hopes to raise the money via crowdfunding by the end of February 2018.

The Falmouth venue will serve tapas-style seafood alongside permanent lines of Verdant beers and will operate on a walk-in policy, with no need to book in advance.

Various difference tiers of rewards are available to investors, including a meal for two, and vouchers to be used in the brewery’s online shop.

Relaxed vibe

In a statement on its Crowdfunder page, the brewery said: “As a brewery in Falmouth, we feel that Falmouth should be a destination where everyone should be able to taste our beers at their freshest.

“As much as we loved having the tap and then the shop at the brewery, we have now come to point where we have maximised all the space available to us in order to be able to brew and package as much beer as possible.

“So we look to the town and we really want to open a relaxed space in which people can come and enjoy our beers alongside some super fresh simple but amazing seafood. See that's where we live right by the sea and we want to make the most of that.”

HonestBrew investment

Describing the proposed offering at the taproom, the brewery said: “We will offer simple but mouthwateringly tasty tapas-style seafood alongside some of the UK's finest hop-forward pale ales, IPAs and Double IPAs.

“Think mussels, scallops, chowder, fresh bread and amazing fries. The vibe will be relaxed, If you can't find a table to sit at, then ask someone to budge up. Get involved and have a grand old time.”

In November 2016, Verdant became the first brewery to receive financial assistance from online beer retailer HonestBrew, as part of a newly launched investment fund for independent breweries.

The brewery received £20,000 from HonestBrew, which it used to purchase additional fermentation tanks.
